  1. Growers can and are framing the Australian grain market - As harvest progresses more growers are logging in to cleargrain.com.au, or calling in, to offer grain for sale at prices they would sell for and impacting all buyer bids.

  2. Deliver and OFFER grain for sale - Rather than delivering and selling into cash bids, deliver and offer grain at your price and help set the market.

  3. CGX and igrainX enable growers to offer grain for sale - Growers delivering to warehouse can offer grain for sale on CGX. Growers with grain on-farm can offer grain for sale on igrainX and determine pickup/delivery timeframes.

27 buyer businesses purchased grain through Clear Grain Exchange (CGX) last week. More buyers were searching for grain offered for sale.

When your grain is offered for sale on CGX all buyers can see it and try to purchase it.

Growers are framing the grain market

As the harvest progresses we're seeing more growers logging in to cleargrain.com.au, or calling in, to offer grain for sale at the prices they're targeting.

The delayed harvest in many areas and variable quality has seen many grain prices maintained or improved thus far. Now as volume delivered increases, growers have a growing opportunity to frame the market with their sell prices versus all buyer bid prices.

The number of buyer searches for grain offered for sale on Clear Grain Exchange and igrainX is rising as harvest takes shape. Demand for Australian grain is increasing and more buyers are engaging the market.

We're seeing buyers logging in and searching grower offer prices on CGX and igrainX in the morning before setting their bids in the broader Australian grain market across cash bids and bid sheets.

This means growers offering grain for sale are not just impacting prices of grain selling within the exchange, but all prices of grain being bid and trading in the broader Australian grain market.

If you’re harvesting or close to harvest and comfortable some of your production is assured, now’s the time to offer grain for sale for all buyers to see.

Last week 27 grades of wheat, barley, canola, lupins, and oats traded with 33 buyers purchasing grain through Clear Grain Exchange (grain stored in warehouse) and igrainX (grain stored on-farm).

But the impact of growers offering through the exchange is much larger than that! 38 buyers were bidding for grain offered for sale and 120 buyers made 7,117 searches for grain offered for sale.

Growers are impacting the price of Australian grain by offering grain for sale and leading the direction of all bids.

Offering grain for sale is not about selling for better prices than best published bids, it's about impacting all bids from all buyers, including those published bids advertised on cash boards.

Rather than delivering and selling by hitting cash bids, deliver and offer grain for sale at your price and help set the market. Be proactive, take control, and offer.

Growers offering grain for sale through the independent exchange are impacting all buyer bids. There’s no downside in offering your grain for sale, only upside – why wouldn’t you offer all of your grain for sale at prices you're happy with?

There are plenty of buyers for Australian grain, make it easier for them to try and buy your grain.

16 grades of wheat made up 53% of all grain traded through CGX and igrainX last week. ASW1 was trading $324/t Melbourne port track, $320/t Newcastle and Pt Adelaide, and the equivalent AWW1 grade in Western Australia was trading $332/t port FIS. Better prices were trading for the higher protein milling grades, H1 and ANW1 traded $385/t and $405/t in the west as examples, and the grades considered lower quality and off-spec appear to be finding their values.

Many growers around Australia are delivering numerous grades of varying quality given the variable harvest conditions and markets are in the process of determining their value.

As aforementioned in these weekly wraps, typically price differences between grades narrow through the year. This implies focussing sales on grades that are attracting better prices rather than selling grades at discounted prices during harvest to improve the average price achieved across all your grains.

When selling those grains in demand, be sure to offer them to all buyers to create the market price and ensure the buyer with the highest demand, gets the grain. We're seeing growers with better quality grains offer them for sale to create that price while demand is stronger.

Growers with off-spec or lower grades are offering them for sale closer to the better quality grades to draw those prices up.

Barley grades made up 24% of all grain traded last week with feed trading in volume at $315/t FIS in the west. Pt Kembla and Melbourne were trading $308/t port track equivalent at various up-country sites. Pt Adelaide was trading $300/t port track.

Canola was trading strongly in the west with non-GM trading $810/t + oil bonifications and GM canola trading $720/t + oil bonifications. Lupins and oats are attracting $355/t and $302/t respectively in the west.

Growers can help avoid downward price pressure at harvest by offering grain for sale - there is demand for Australian grain.
