CLEAR Launches Auto Bid Sheets
December 10, 2009
As a result of the recent GrainCorp and CLEAR integration, the CLEAR grain exchange now has the capacity to automatically download buyer cash-at-silo bids in the GrainCorp system, and convert them to ‘free-in-store’ bids on CLEAR.
A positive for growers registered with CLEAR, automatic bid sheet will result in significantly more buyer bids in the system. The new function has also been strongly supported by enthusiastic buyers on CLEAR. There are a few of reasons for their enthusiasm:
- All bids are automatically displayed to over 2,300 sellers now actively using the CLEAR system.
- Each bid provides buyers with access to not only weigh bridge tonnes, but also warehoused grain.
- Bids are capped against buyers predetermined trading limits.
- Bid sheets can be instantaneously “pulled” from the market (or amended) should market conditions/strategy change during the course of the day.

Grain Growers Embrace CLEAR
December 9, 2009
Grower numbers on the CLEAR system are now greater than ever with over 8,000 accounts now created and 2,300 growers actively using the system. The overwhelming response from growers has centred on the simplicity of the system, and the ability to have a CLEAR account automatically created just by dropping grain off at a GrainCorp site.
The large number of growers actively using CLEAR has also brought a number of new buyers to system. Leading buyer organisations registered with CLEAR are provided potential to access to the millions of uncommitted tonnes of grain stored with GrainCorp on the east coast.

CLEAR Grain Exchange integration with GrainCorp goes live
November 16, 2009
A major integration agreement between the online CLEAR Grain Exchange and GrainCorp, Australia’s largest bulk handler of grain, went live this morning.
This harvest, GrainCorp and CLEAR have entered into an agreement to provide growers with a simple way to view their GrainCorp inventory online, view current market prices and set their own price to sell via CLEAR.
Any grain grower storing their grain at one of GrainCorp’s 250-plus sites will have a CLEAR account automatically created for them to sell their grain.
Using CLEAR, growers can set a price on their grain, marketing it directly to 200 traders representing more than 90 leading buyer organisations. Unique to the industry, growers who sell their grain via CLEAR receive payment within seven days of sale, and always retain title to their grain until full payment is received from the buyer.
CLEAR CEO Grant Thomas said, “This is a significant development for the Australian grain market and an exciting partnership for CLEAR.
“The integration links growers’ tickets seamlessly and confidentially between the GrainCorp stock system and the CLEAR online grain market platform. Growers using CLEAR to sell grain warehoused with GrainCorp can do so with ease all year round, without the need to transfer grain manually from GrainCorp warehousing, which is a big advantage,” said Thomas.
NZX announces the acquisition of CLEAR Grain Exchange
October 6, 2009
NZX today announces the acquisition of Melbourne-based CLEAR Group, owner of the CLEAR Grain Exchange. This is in the form a purchase of the assets of Clear Group, comprising in particular, CLEAR Commodities, the CLEAR Grain Exchange and CLEAR Interactive, the technology developer of the CLEAR Grain Exchange.
The initial purchase price will be approximately AUD$6.4 million paid in cash. If significant trading volumes are achieved over a three year period, the increasing value of the grain platform will be recognised and an additional payment made. The CLEAR Interactive team will also be focused on developing further agri-market infrastructure and customer connectivity, which may result in a further asset payment.
CLEAR Grain Exchange is the Australian grain industry’s only full-service electronic market for the trading of grain. CLEAR Grain Exchange provides a global best in class full end-to-end solution for spot commodities trading. CLEAR Grain Exchange also provides a full suite of back office, settlement and payment services.
NZX CEO Mark Weldon said, “This transaction brings together two key components of NZX’s strategy: trading of agricultural commodities and acquiring technology development expertise to grow markets.
“NZX and CLEAR both recognise the importance of reliable, efficient and transparent agricultural markets operated on world-class technology and backed by a rich set of information and data. This deal combines CLEAR’s technology development expertise and grain market knowledge with NZX’s expertise in developing markets and distributing market data and information.
“The strategic fit, opportunities and advantages are compelling. CLEAR Grain Exchange, as a world-class technology platform, will form the technology base of a broader NZX strategy,” said Weldon.
CLEAR Group Managing Director, Grant Thomas said, “We have had strong industry support for CLEAR Grain Exchange as it provides a complete and accessible price solution for grain growers and gives buyers access to a large number of Australian grain producers.
“We have introduced improved liquidity, price transparency and more price discovery to the marketplace and are looking forward to developing our services to the grain industry and across a range of commodities with NZX.”
CLEAR Grain Exchange joins NZX’s agricultural data and market information offering that includes ProFarmer – an Australian grain market data business – and NZX Agrifax, Dairy Week and eight Agri-Media titles including Farmer’s Weekly.
Using CLEAR Grain Exchange, grain growers can access the best prices from a range of buyers and choose from these in a real-time environment. Grain buyers can view offers and lodge bids directly via CLEAR Grain Exchange.
There are more than 1,100 grain growers with active CLEAR Grain Exchange accounts. In addition, there are over 100 brokers and over 200 buyers and bulk handlers across Australia registered with CLEAR Grain Exchange.
CLEAR Grain Exchange also has an agreement in place with GrainCorp which allows growers with grain warehoused at a GrainCorp site to automatically sell their grain via CLEAR Grain Exchange. GrainCorp is Australia’s largest bulk handler of grain with over 13,000 registered growers, who will become automatically connected to CLEAR Grain Exchange.
“CLEAR Grain Exchange is proven and has strong growth potential in grain and other agricultural commodities. This is the best platform we have seen. The opportunity to acquire a full platform with connected customers and proven speed to market makes extremely sound business sense,” said Weldon.
CLEAR Grain Exchange and NZX’s Energy Markets business both use the same development language. The CLEAR Interactive and Energy technology teams strengthen NZX’s information technology development and market operations capability considerably.
“As an integrated trans-Tasman company we can achieve so much more than two separate entities could. The synergies between CLEAR Grain Exchange and NZX’s assets and capabilities and alignment around a global strategy create an exciting future for our business and our people,” said Thomas.
NZX and CLEAR Group expect the transaction to close in late October. NZX will be hosting an Investor Day in mid November.

Some changes to the way you trade on CLEAR
September 16, 2009
In an effort to further build and improve on last seasons trading, CLEAR has been reviewing our terms and conditions of trade. Two aspects have been described by both sides of the trade as ‘needing improvement’, and CLEAR has created solutions to remedy these concerns. As a result, the new CLEAR Terms and Conditions (to be released shortly) will have the following changes:
Ticket Loads
This harvest all trades on CLEAR will be in full ticket loads, there will be no splitting tickets if only a portion of a ticket is traded. For example if a buyer bids for 100mt of grain and a matching offer is available, the buyer will be filled to the nearest full ticket, for instance 94.5mt. The reason for this change is to avoid growers being left with small residual tonnages that they are unable to exit on the market. Similarly the grower/seller who has 200mt in their inventory will be able to offer up 100mt of that inventory, and if it trades the nearest whole ticket volume will transfer, for instance 94.5mt.
Storage debt
This harvest, buyers will assume responsibility for storage debt from settlement date (the day the funds hit the Perpetual Trust account). Last season, responsibility for the storage was assumed from contract date. The reason for the change was to match up with standard industry practice.
Therefore under this arrangement if a trade occurs on CLEAR on 29 June, and the Buyer makes payment on 3 July, the Seller will be responsible for July storage, NOT the Buyer. Both Sellers and Buyers will consider factoring this into their offer/bid price.
If you require any information on changes explained above, please don’t hesitate to contact CLEAR on 1800 000 410.

CLEAR Well Received at WA Field Days
September 15, 2009
The recent Dowerin & Newdegate Field Days have been viewed as a resounding success and were again well supported by local growers and the wider regional community.
The expanded number of field demonstrations attracted plenty of interest, proving agriculture still offered strong optimism and enthusiasm moving forward. Grower feedback suggests that falling grain prices are a concern and while some areas will need continued rain into spring, it’s fair to say the cropping conditions overall are looking promising across most regions with growers optimistic about yield prospects. The field days gave CLEAR an opportunity to discuss recent developments with the online grain exchange.
The ability to obtain seven day payment on all grain sold generated the most positive feedback with growers. With cash flow low at harvest, the quick payment schedule delivered through CLEAR means a quick turnaround of money in the bank.
All growers warmly welcomed the greater security offered by CLEAR, which enables the grower to remain the beneficial owner of their grain until payment is received. The onset of deregulation has brought opportunity but also a degree of uncertainty in this regard, with a number of new buyers entering the WA market in recent years.
Growers were also very supportive of CLEAR’s enhanced security, which includes a comprehensive background check of buyers wishing to register.
Many visitors were interested to discuss the new DIY (Do It Yourself) model, which allows growers to sell their grain independently on the system. It is evident from the field days that there are a number of growers who want to trade their own grain free of broker or advisor representation.
CLEAR would like to thank all growers for their attendance and interest over these days. For any further inquiries please call 1800 000 410 to speak with a CLEAR consultant.

CLEAR Announces DIY
August 10, 2009
CLEAR is pleased to announce the decision to offer a Do It Yourself (DIY) service to Australian grain growers.
CLEAR DIY has been established to provide direct system access to growers who prefer to trade independently. CLEAR DIY will enable growers to confirm tickets, place their grain on offer and/or accept buyer bids.
Growers will have the ability to execute trades themselves.
We acknowledge that there are many growers who want to trade their own grain independently. CLEAR provides price transparency and expands the access to market information for growers like never before. CLEAR DIY allows growers to take full control of their asset, especially around the critical phase of trading. We recognise that some growers also prefer the involvement of advisors or brokers and to that end nothing changes. That facility is still in place and CLEAR will continue to provide that option.
Ultimately, CLEAR is looking to expand the volume of grain on the system and create greater liquidity, resulting in a more transparent market. The recent CLEAR and GrainCorp integration announcement delivers instantaneous access to all warehoused grain. CLEAR’s DIY initiative provides significant opportunities for astute brokers enabling greater access to grain supply, improved efficiency gains and scale.
The DIY service will be available to growers early October 2009.
Growers can now register online. If you have any questions about CLEAR DIY, please refer to our DIY Frequently Asked Questions or contact CLEAR on 1800 000 410.

CLEAR visits the Mallee Machinery Field Days
August 7, 2009
A fully booked site and one of the best starts to the cropping season in recent years saw over 8,000 primary producers pack into the Mallee Machinery Field Days in Speed on the 5th and 6th of August.
A number of CLEAR staff made the journey north to exhibit all the latest system developments and updates.
We would like to thank everyone who registered their interest with CLEAR at the event, which was a great success. We were able to speak to a large number of grain growers from the Mallee region about the exciting developments on CLEAR this harvest.
The hot topic over the two-day event was the recent announcement of the CLEAR system integration with the GrainCorp warehousing system. We received a lot of positive feedback from growers, excited that any grain warehoused with GrainCorp would automatically be available to sell via the CLEAR Grain Exchange.
There were a number of suggestions from local farmers that a ‘Do It Yourself’ service was needed for growers who wished to trade on CLEAR without the assistance of an advisor or broker. A CLEAR ‘Do It Yourself’ service for growers was launched on August 10, which will enable the DIY Grower to confirm tickets, place their grain on offer and/or accept Buyer bids for their grain.
If you were unable to attend the Mallee Machinery Field Days or you are interested in knowing more about the recent announcements, please contact CLEAR on 1800 000 410.

Australian Grains Industry Conference Report
August 04, 2009
A number of key CLEAR staff recently attended the Australian Grains Industry Conference held in Melbourne on July 27–28th. The conference, which is one of the premier annual grains industry events, was the first major industry event on the calendar since the GrainCorp integration announcement, and CLEAR was delighted with the enthusiasm shown amongst attendees.
The general consensus is that the arrangement will help fuel liquidity within the CLEAR grain exchange, enabling growers, brokers and buyers to confidently and efficiently trade through CLEAR. It was commonly stated that the integration helped secure CLEAR’s place in the industry by developing a sustainable supply of grain into the system.
One purchasing manager stated that CLEAR now attracts their business due to their common usage of GrainCorp warehousing sites. While a major exporter said that given the good crop conditions in Eastern Australia that could lead to an increase in export volumes, the GrainCorp integration provides an opportunity for them to benefit from the efficiency of CLEAR at the port.
CLEAR would like to thank everyone for your ongoing support as we approach this season’s harvest.

CLEAR GrainCorp Integration
July 22, 2009
CLEAR today announced agreement had been reached with east coast bulk handling company GrainCorp to integrate the CLEAR online grain exchange and the GrainCorp online warehousing system, with a target go live date during October 2009. Grain growers and traders stand to benefit greatly from improved integration between the systems.
The integration will provide a seamless enhancement to growers, brokers and traders expanding their market access whilst significantly improving and simplifying trading.
Growers will be able to automatically transact through CLEAR from GrainCorp’s warehousing system, when storing grain with GrainCorp.
With CLEAR’s live system, online price discovery and price transparency are now readily available at the click of a button. The simplicity of the CLEAR system also means that no matter who you are, or which GrainCorp site you deliver to, you are able to take full control of the trading and sale of your grain.
If you have any questions regarding the integration between CLEAR and GrainCorp, please refer to our GrainCorp Integration Frequently Asked Questions or call 1800 410 000 to speak with a CLEAR consultant.
The integration will be operational for the commencement of the 2009/10 grain harvest.
Thank you for your support.

New Bid Sheet Features
July 20, 2009
CLEAR is excited to launch our new bid sheet capabilities for registered traders. Since the introduction of bid sheets to the system, CLEAR has received feedback from buyers across the country looking for a fast, efficient and comprehensive solution to accumulate grain through CLEAR.
Bid sheets allow buyers to automatically accumulate grain from selected sites relevant to their port zone. A range of bid sheet management tools allow buyers to duplicate and rename their bid sheets while also having the ability to change the grain grade and/or port zone at any time, providing a more streamlined and efficient process for generating bids.
Location differentials allow buyers to factor in premiums and discounts on a site by site basis when lodging bids and all bid sheets are automatically suspended at the conclusion of each day, removing the risk created by old or unattended bid sheets.
CLEAR strongly encourages all registered buyers to take full advantage of the bid sheet function offered within the system, and welcomes any feedback and suggestions from users. A bid sheet user manual is available to all CLEAR buyers and traders upon request, please phone 1800 000 410.

CLEAR Bushfire Relief Fund
March 16, 2009
Recently, CLEAR set up a relief fund for those families affected by the Victorian bushfire with all proceeds of the appeal donated directly to the Red Cross 2009 Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
We still need your help to make this initiative a success. We are encouraging grain growers and marketers who provide grain through the ABB, ABA and GrainCorp bulk handling systems to contribute by putting offers on small parcels of grain in CLEAR. Buyers will then able to purchase the grain through CLEAR as per usual with all money from the transactions directly transferred into the relief fund. Growers and brokers can set a price on their grain as per usual and subsequently determine how much their donation is worth.
Thank you for your generous support so far.

CLEAR Extends Trading Hours
January 13, 2009
A very “CLEAR” message has been sent to the market place today when CLEAR announced it has extended our trading hours from 4pm AEST to 6pm AEST. The trading hours will now be 10am AEST until 6pm AEST.
The decision to extend trading hours will be very well received in WA especially. This will provide traders with extra time to facilitate their bids for the day and transact accordingly.
Strong support emanating from WA has led to the extra two-hour window and is a strong signal about CLEAR’s ability to adapt the system to market requirements.
The system has only been live for 8 weeks and in that time has developed a committed following around the country.
CLEAR is a very dynamic system that will continually look to provide users with the most effective and efficient methods available to trade grain.
Enhancements are made on a daily basis.
CLEAR is also looking to launch Phase 2 of the system over the next few weeks which will provide users with many extra features and benefits.

New appointments at CLEAR
December 23, 2008
CLEAR Commodities is very pleased to announce the appointment of two influential grain industry figures to the team.
Sarah Scales, well known for her role as a senior executive at leading Australian grains company AWB Ltd, has entered into a consulting arrangement with CLEAR. Sarah will be involved in important decision making and strategy within the executive team whilst managing the day to day operations of the front line business development team. Sarah brings over 20 years experience in the grains industry to CLEAR.
Phil Brooks has been appointed as manager of CLEAR’s Western Australian operation. With over 10 years grains industry experience in WA, Phil will provide a familiar face to all West Australian grain growers, brokers and buyers.
These appointments are significant statements to the industry by CLEAR and the two will make extremely valuable contributions to the CLEAR team.
We are delighted with the appointment of both Sarah and Phil. Sarah is such a highly regarded industry person and will add greater strategic depth to the executive team whilst Phil has a tremendous relationship with predominately growers and brokers. He definitely has their best interests at heart and has a track record of getting the job done.
With over 30 years experience between them, their knowledge and understanding of the grain industry will allow us to provide the best possible service to CLEAR users.
We think this is a big move in the right direction for CLEAR and we are already seeing the benefits from the appointments - both internally and from the industry in general.

Buyers and Bulk Handlers Announced
December 19, 2008
Today CLEAR announced that we have over seventy buyers and bulk handlers now registered on the system. This represents more than fifty leading Australian grain industry companies spanning all industry sectors: including domestic and international traders, exporters, end-users, pool operators, farmer buyers, bulk handlers, feed millers, stock feeders and more.
This milestone is great achievement by everyone involved.
Today’s announcement provides another compelling reason why growers should be using the CLEAR system this harvest to trade grain, not the least of which is that the platform makes marketing decisions this harvest so much easier.
Please visit cleargrain.com.au/buyers for a full list of buyers and bulk handlers currently registered with CLEAR.
Once again, your ongoing support of CLEAR is truly appreciated.

Canola Launched
December 11, 2008
After a successful first week of barley trading on the CLEAR platform, we are now ready to launch the addition of canola. After weeks of development in response to high demand, we are excited to deliver another marketing option to Australian canola growers.
We have seen some big differences in the market place this harvest. Many growers are currently warehousing grain as a response to the de-regulation of the wheat export ‘single-desk’. It’s important to know that it is a quick and simple step to transfer that grain onto the CLEAR system and set a price. It costs nothing to do so, and it is a straightforward process to transfer grain back into warehouse and out of CLEAR if needed.
December is a great time for Australian grain growers to register themselves and start trading with CLEAR. With our quick payment terms and seven day settlement, sellers are now seeing their money in the bank in time for Christmas. For information on how to get your grain into CLEAR via delivery or transferring from warehouse, click here.
If you aren’t already registered with CLEAR, please contact your broker or call 1800 000 410 with any queries or questions you may have. Once again, we would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support of CLEAR while we continue to grow.

Malt and Feed Barley Launched
December 3, 2008
CLEAR has just finished some further system developments and we are excited to announce the addition of Barley as an additional marketing option. Growers, Buyers and Brokers will now be able to exchange both malt and feed barley through CLEAR, responding to the high demand from those keen to trade grain online.
With Australian barley production forecast to be around 6 million tonnes this harvest, we see barley as an essential addition to the broad range of marketing options.
We believe this latest addition helps highlight the capacity and flexibility of CLEAR’s new online platform and we also plan to include canola as a marketing option very soon.

ABB Agreements Finalised
November 26, 2008
After going live almost two weeks ago, the CLEAR grain trading system continues to gather momentum. With over 1500 growers registered on the system and an additional 2000 to be added before the weeks end, CLEAR has been very well received and supported by Growers, Brokers, Buyers and Bulk Handling Companies alike. After a very successful first two weeks, the CLEAR system has over 40 registered broker organisations and more than 50 trader organisations.
There has been significant positive feedback from buyers after familiarising themselves with the bid sheet capabilities on the CLEAR system. This enables them to post bids throughout an entire port region instantaneously and use the same bid sheet template day after day whilst accommodating for any overnight price fluctuations.
CLEAR is also very pleased to announce that we have just finalised our storage handling agreements with ABB, offering all growers in South Australia the opportunity to benefit from using the CLEAR system.
On behalf of the CLEAR team we would like to congratulate and thank everyone that have made themselves a part of this new initiative and we encourage you to contact CLEAR on 1800 000 410 with any questions or queries that you may have.
